Tia Banks never planned on entering a beauty pageant… but thanks to her grandma, she gave it a go – and ended up winning!
Tia, 18, is studying fashion design at Middlesbrough College and had never entered any modelling or pageants before. Over the summer break, her grandma spotted an advert for the Miss Newcastle competition and said, “Go on, it’ll be good experience!” So, Tia entered – not realising just how big this moment would be.
Fast forward to the final at Newcastle Racecourse and Tia’s heart was racing. When they announced her as the winner, her legs were shaking, she could hardly breathe, and she couldn’t believe it was real! She’s now through to the Miss Great Britain finals this October – and although she’s nervous, she’s so excited for what’s next.
For the competition, Tia wore the stunning Nora dress from Blush – a lilac gown covered head to toe in delicate 3D flowers. She didn’t get to go to prom, so this was a really special “prom moment” for her and her family.
From zero pageant experience to wearing the crown, Tia’s story shows what can happen when you step out of your comfort zone. We’ll be cheering her on every step of the way to Miss Great Britain!
