Finding your prom dress should be one of the most exciting parts of prom planning — but it can also feel overwhelming if you’re not sure where to start. At Blush Studio, we’ve helped hundreds of girls find the one, and along the way, we’ve seen the same mistakes pop up time and time again.
Here are 5 common prom dress mistakes and how to avoid them so you can enjoy the process (and avoid stress and regret later on).

1. Letting Too Many Opinions Confuse You 💬
Bringing someone with you to your appointment is a great idea — a second opinion can be so helpful. But bringing too many voices can make it harder to know what you really want. We do advise you take a look at our dress collection on our website before hand to give yourself some ideas. View the Prom 2026 Dress Collection here.
Everyone has different tastes, and sometimes those opinions can clash. The result? You leave more confused than when you arrived.
Our tip: Bring a maximum of three people whose opinion you trust, and remember that your happiness matters most.

2. Rushing the Decision If You’re Not 100% Sure ⏳
If you’re not completely sure about a dress, it’s okay to take your time.
Take photos during your appointment so you can look back at them later. Sometimes you need a night (or two) to think it over — and that’s perfectly fine. You can even book a follow-up appointment once you’ve had time to reflect.
If you are confident shopping with us then some customers do put a deposit on their favourite dress at the time taking advantage of our swappable deposit option.

3. Telling Friends Your Choice Too Soon 🙊
We know it’s tempting to share your dream dress with your friends straight away, but from experience, we’ve seen it cause disappointment.
Sometimes another friend might go and buy it first, which means you can’t have the dress you’d set your heart on (thanks to our One Dress Per School Promise). Keep your final choice to yourself until you’ve secured it — it saves heartache later!

4. Choosing a Colour Without Trying Others 🎨
Your prom dress colour can completely change the way you look and feel. The shade you imagined might not be the most flattering for your skin tone, so it’s worth experimenting.
Our tip: Try on a range of colours — including some you might never have considered — to see which makes you feel your best.

5. Ignoring Your Budget 💷
We want you to enjoy your appointment without falling in love with a dress that’s out of reach. That’s why we ask about your budget before you start trying anything on. It helps us pick the perfect options for you and avoids unnecessary disappointment.
Our tip: Discuss your budget together before your appointment so everyone’s on the same page and there are no misunderstandings.

💖 The Bottom Line:
Choosing your prom dress is a special moment. Avoiding these common mistakes will help make the process fun, stress-free, and unforgettable — and ensure you leave with a dress you truly love.
